Wagner: Organ Transcriptions by Edwin Henry Lemare

With this release Tactus launches a new series dedicated to and in cooperation with the Centro Studi Lauretani (Loreto Study Center), that will add to its large and prestigeous organ music catalogue.
The Centro Studi Lauretani is handled by the Delegazione Pontificia for the Loreto Holy House Sanctuary with the aim of promoting and developing with a scientific approach all theological, spiritual and cultural aspects linked to the famous Sanctuary of Mary, perfectly in line with Pope Bendict XVI statement about the poet, composer and theologist Romano il Melode: “From the contact of the heart with Truth, which is Love, culture is born”.
For this first volume Tactus goes beyond its editorial guidelines (exclusevely concentrating on Italian Authors) presenting here a series of great Wagnerian pages arranged for the organ by Edwin Lemare (1866-1934), a British organist famous for editing a series of brilliant transcriptions for organ.
As mentioned on the very interesting booklet notes signed by the performer of this CD, Giulio Mercati (chapelmeister of the Loreto Holy House Basilica), “the Lemare transcriprions are a clear example of the highest late nineteenth century virtuosism, yet, at the service of musical expression”
