The tour that the Filarmonica del Teatro Comunale di Modena, conducted by Maestro Hirofumi Yoshida, offered to the Japanese public was also an ideal Grand Tour. During its tour, which visited the International Expo and the Izumi Hall in Osaka, as well as the enchantment of Amami Island, the orchestra presented a program dedicated to a thrillingly romantic and passionately sovereign nineteenth century, and above all to that Italy where roses and lemons blossomed, but also musical masterpieces.
In this journey, Mendelssohn contributes to the Italian Symphonies with his celebrated \”Italian\” Symphony, born from the Grand Tour of 1830 and capable of transforming landscapes, atmospheres, and impressions into music: from the luminous Allegro vivace to the swirling Saltarello. Rossini brings two iconic overtures, \”La Gazza Ladra\” and \”Guillaume Tell,\” exemplars of theatricality, narrative energy, and naturalistic description. Verdi adds the dramatic power of the symphonies of Nabucco and La forza del destino, true summaries of opera and symbols of heroic tension. Mascagni completes the picture with the Intermezzo from Cavalleria rusticana, a piece of lyrical suspension that illuminates verismo with timeless sweetness.
