Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741)
Cantatas for soprano and instruments RV 682, 679, 681, 680, 678, 799
This fourth volume of Vivaldi’s cantatas presents to the listener those compositions for solo soprano for which Vivaldi provided a more colorful instrumental accompaniment: strings, flute and violin. We have included among this group of works (veering from our initial plan) the cantata Tremori al braccio, RV 799, for soprano and continuo, discovered in 1999 at the library of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna. Thanks to this recent discovery, as well as to the generosity of Olivier Fourés in promptly making the manuscript available, we have been able to include in this first complete recording of Vivaldi’s cantatas this rare work shortly after its appearance.
