Each of the canzonas contained in the posthumous collection of “ Canzoni alla Francese in partitura,Libro IV (1645), bears title which is clearly derived from the last names of the dedicatees to whom he intended to pay homage.
Many of the names refer to composers active primarly in the Veneto region.
The canzonas follow the scheme of variation canzona. The subject returns in a rhythmically varied guise in each section, creating a justaposition of the sections as they follow one other in an alteration of binary and ternary meters, moderate tempos and lively dotted figures; the whole is interspersed whith toccata-like adagio passage wich serve to unite the contrasting parts.
