PAOLUCCI GIUSEPPE
Padre Giuseppe Paolucci (1727-1777) – theoretician and composer, was one of the most admired pupils of Padre Giovanni Battista Martini.
In 1756 he was appointed maestro di cappella at the basilica of the Frari in Venice. In 1761 he moved on to the church of San Francesco in Perugia, and ten years later, after a brief period in Senigallia at the church of San Martino dei Serviti, he was named maestro di cappella at the basilica of San Francesco in Assisi, where he remained until his death on 26 April 1777.
A prolific composer of sacred music, a great part of which has remained in manuscript, Paolucci owes his fame to the treatise, “Arte pratica del contrappunto dimostrata con esempi di vari autori e con osservazioni”, published in 3 volumes and printed in Venice between 1765 and 1772.
Padre Martini drew from this treatise for his own “Esemplare”. Paolucci’s only printed work is his “Preces o voces concinendae in Oratione Quadragita Horarum” (VE 1767).
