Sonatas and Concertos for violin

In the first half of the XVIII century, the Venice Republic became one of the most important musical centers in Europe for opera, sacred and instrumental music.
This extraordinary fluorishing moment came from authors that made history such as: Antonio Vivaldi, Tomaso Albinoni, Benedetto Marcello and Baldassare Galuppi, nevertheless, some presently unknown authors gave a very relevant contribution.
With this CD Tactus closes its exploration of the Giovanni Meneghetti six concerts begun in 2008 and suggests – still as world premiere – six sonatas for violin and b.c.
by his father Gaetano, composer from Vicenza (Italy) that in 1827 Andrea Alverà described in his Giornale biografo di Vicenza: “He was one of best performers in Italy, following Tartini, he played the violin with excellence”.
Even if conceived as sonatas for church, the Gaetano Meneghetti operas reveal an estraordinary vivacity in the fast times, where you can esily recognize the moving of allemandas and correnti, and a marvellous singable vein in the slow times.
Giovanni Guglielmo accomplishes the task with the right balance both musically and philologically, giving visibility to delicate nuances with a sound of great beauty well supported by the great Archicembalo Ensemble, with original instruments, directed by an inspired Enrico Zanovello.
