MARGOLA FRANCO
The contents of this recording focus on two important periods in our composer’s career: the years from 1935 to 1940, and the twenty years following 1950.
In his stylistic choices preceding the second world war, Margola remained faithful to the principles of so-called “neo-classicism”, understood as the attempt to recapture archaic musical languages and adapt them to new linguistic conditions.
Both folk music and early music provide two solid bases for constructing and recuperating a closer and above all more tranquil sonority.
Margola’s adoption of a simple language, which envelops interesting contrapuntal intersections and brief but dynamic melodies from the old repertoire of virginal music and madrigals, are indeed pleasant in their conciseness.
